Bohemia (SPONSORED book review)

*The original book cover of Bohemia*

About a week ago or so Veronika e-mailed me and wanted me to do a review of her latest book. I was all excited and couldn't wait to get my eyes on this book. Plus, it was my very first
time to review books, as I've never done any of it before. It was quite a challenge for me because I'm a slow book reader I guess? I like to read every single bits and bites of word in the book; just to get the real fact. Veronika e-mailed me the manuscript version of the book and I had to read it off my computer screen. Nope I don't own an e-book reader. I'm old fashion. I like to have the "real" book on my hands; laying on my bed before sleep and read as if I were one of the characters in the book.

About the book cover
As a Graphic Designer, I simply just love the design of it.
I love how it's so simple yet it portrays the story of the book. The ups and downs in life.

Definition of Bohemia
(quoted from Wikipedia)
Bohemia is a historical region in central Europe, occupying the western two-thirds of the traditional Czech Lands. It is located in the contemporary Czech Republic with its capital in Prague.

About the book
(quoted from Veronika)
Influenced by the works of Beat Generation authors and great poets, the story takes place during 1960 and chronicles a group of bohemian twenty-somethings who defy the "ideals" of a mid-twentieth century society to seek creative fulfillment. On a deeper level, it portrays the creative path that artists of all mediums tread, all the while depicting the challenges faced by youth and women in the ‘60s.

My thoughts

When I was given the opportunity to review this book, all of a sudden "The Great Gatsby" came into my mind. But there is no relation at all with "Bohemia". I guess it was just me trying to picture the scene; Anyway, "Bohemia" is a one-of-a-kind book that'll make you wonder..."What's going to happen next?". It has nothing to do with thriller, investigations, ghosts and such. It's a book about young people, trying to search for their right path in life.

I really love how the author started the first chapter with.. "I WOKE UP..." To me it's kind of like a feeling where me myself is the starring of the book and that it makes me want to continue reading on and on and on... (Am I being too dramatic here? LOL. Hey not all books starts with "I". But yes most of the horror or thriller story books which I've read starts with "I had an evil dream...")

Honestly, I'm loving the writing style of this book. It sort of brought me back to the 60s even though I have NO IDEA how the 1960s look like (Pardon me I wasn't even born yet!). I assumed that there are two main characters in the book, one is Valerie Freed (V) and the other is Emmaline Tovski (Emm). There are two guys, Lester Evans and Jimmy Ray. The story basically depicts the girls' lives; how they survive after graduating from school, finding jobs, meeting strangers and moving from cities to cities. From this story I've learn that life ain't an easy thing; especially if you're a female in the 60s. I guess it was quite a challenge to be able to fight for a living. The was this one part from the book which made me think that V and Emm were really brave girls.

They literally went along with two guys whom they just met while walking on the street. "Went along" as in they sat in their car and trusted them into getting the girls a good career.I was like... "WOW this is going to be epic". I was thinking...
what's going to happen next? What job are the boys going to offer them since they said "we'll take care of ya". What if prostitution? What if some kind of not-so-happy-after-all type of job? Hmmm...yes if kept me wondering. That's why...
YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK.
*Don't worry about it, nobody was hurt*

Audience
This book is suitable for adults as the story contains bars, clubs, alcohols and such. It is  a calming book. (Even though I said that there's alcohol...but still).
Nothing to do with murders, spirits and such
. If you want to feel the experience of living in the 60s, this book is your choice!
